VEGAN TAILGATE FOOD THAT EVERYONE WILL LOVE
Tailgating is a three-season event in the Chicago area.
In the fall we tailgate at football games. Spring brings early baseball tailgate parties. And in the summer, it’s all about baseball and concerts.
We love bringing and making vegan recipes that everyone raves about, whether vegan or not.
If you love to impress your friends and family with good food made with plants, then you’re going to want to make a few of these recipes for your next tailgate.
VEGAN PARTY RECIPES FOR A GROUP
Let’s kick this off with one of our all time favorite vegan appetizers!!!
Y’all, this stuff is pure gold. Our friends request it whenever we get together.
It truly rivals the kind made with dairy and meat. You’d never guess that its dairy-free buffalo chicken dip.
HOW DO YOU MAKE BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP VEGAN?
Jackfruit and cashews do the trick.
When you shred jackfruit and cook it in the right spices and marinades, it takes on the taste and texture of chicken.
Cashews create a thick and creamy texture like creamed cheese. No need for dairy.
WHAT IS JACKFRUIT?
It’s a fruit that’s grown mainly in Asia. When it’s young and green, it is an excellent substitute for meat, such as chicken and pork.
NOTE: For all of our savory jackfruit recipes, you ONLY want young green jackfruit canned in WATER.
If you use ripe jackfruit, it will be too sweet and you won’t get the results you’re looking for.
Avoid jackfruit packed in brine, as it will be very salty.
WHERE CAN YOU BUY JACKFRUIT?
We order ours on Amazon.com. You can also find it at your local Asian market.
Click this link to learn more about it.
Because our buffalo chik’n dip is spicy, you’re going to want to dip it in something cool, like our homemade dairy-free ranch dressing.
It’s every bit as delicious as conventional ranch, only it’s made with cashews instead of cream.
Crispy, crunchy, savory, tangy, and so freaking delicious!!
You’re going to want to double or triple this vegan fried pickle recipe because it’s a crowd favorite.
Dip them in our ranch dressing.
VEGAN MEAT RECIPES THAT SATISFY
The days of grilling tofu steaks are gone. Not that there’s anything wrong with tofu, but there are so many other great vegan food options.
We’ve created some hearty and DELICIOUS vegan meat recipes that will blow your mind.
Chewy, dripping in barbecue sauce, slightly charred, vegan ribs.
These are no joke. The men in our lives request them often, and although they aren’t “just like meat,” they’re a good replacement.
We make the ribs with vital wheat gluten, or seitan.
It’s as easy as whisking the dry ingredients and stirring the wet ingredients in to form a stretchy ball of dough that can be manipulated into any shape you want.
WHAT IS VITAL WHEAT GLUTEN?
It's basically pure gluten from wheat flour with a tiny bit of starch.
By stripping the gluten from the wheat, it helps bread get that perfectly stretchy texture. It's also the key ingredient in seitan.
Read more about it HERE.
IS SEITAN GOOD FOR YOU?
Unless you can't eat gluten, it's a great source of protein.
One ounce of seitan contains 21 grams of protein. One ounce of beef has 28 grams, not too far off.
It's also low in carbs (4 grams per ounce), and fat (0.5 grams per ounce).
Read more about it HERE.
If you’ve been missing pulled pork since going vegan, we’ve got you, boo.
Jackfruit makes the best vegan pulled pork!
All you need to do is season it and drown it in BBQ sauce and you’ll be amazed by just how much it tastes and feels like the kind you used to eat.
If you missed our explanation of jackfruit above, go check out our Buffalo Chik’n Dip to learn about it.
Say what?
Yep, you read that right, we shredded carrots and onions, roasted them, and doused them in our homemade BBQ sauce.
The result, an incredibly delicious pulled barbecue sandwich that our non-vegan friends and family LOVE!
This is one of the most popular recipes on the blog, and for good reason.
It’s super easy to make and delicious.
Many of our readers put it on their weekly meal rotation. Now that’s a testament to a great recipe.
Make these hearty vegan sandwiches and watch your friends freak out after the first bite.
We used Gardein meatballs for this recipe and holy balls (LOL), they’re so realistic.
Make our homemade sauce and stuff them in crusty bread, then top with vegan parmesan cheese.
This is another recipe that the guys in our lives devour when we make them.
VEGAN PHILLY CHEESESTEAK SANDWICH
Soy curls are the star of this delicious and hearty sandwich.
We soak the soy curls in no-beef broth and then cook them until they’re tender and chewy.
Fill a bun with the beef flavored soy curls, sautéed peppers and onion, mushrooms, and our creamy vegan cheese sauce.
Your friends will think you’re a genius.
WHAT ARE SOY CURLS?
They're dehydrated pieces of soy made from the whole soy bean.
We buy Butler soy curls because they're Non GMO and pesticide free.
IS SOY GOOD FOR YOU?
As long as the soybeans are Non GMO, you're good.
Listen to THIS and learn about the scientific facts about soy.
HEARTY VEGETARIAN CHILI CON CARNE
Con carne means meat, and clearly you won’t find animal meat in any of our recipes.
What you will find, however, are meaty plant-based ingredients that mimic the textures that you’re used to finding in recipes such as this hearty vegan chili recipe.
We use cauliflower to match the texture of ground beef in our vegan con carne, and it totally works.
It’s thick and has a great chewiness that you’d expect to find in a con carne chili.
VEGAN BURGERS FOR YOUR NEXT TAILGATE PARTY
It just isn’t a tailgate without a good burger.
We love how far the world has come in the past five years in regards to great vegan food options.
Today you can walk into most supermarkets and pick up Beyond Meat burgers and brats to grill. We love that!
Then again, you can also whip up a few of our favorite bean burger recipes to grill.
Starting with…..
SPICY BLACK BEAN & QUINOA BURGERS THAT DON’T FALL APART ON THE GRILL
We used to have a hard time getting veggie burgers to stick together on the grill, until we discovered aquafaba.
WHAT IS AQUAFABA?
Aquafaba is the liquid in a can of chickpeas. It’s magical.
We use it as a binder for baking and for veggie burgers.
You can also turn it into meringue. Check this out!
Like we said, it’s magical. To learn more about it, click here.
Our spicy black bean burgers are delicious, and they’re about as firm as you’re going to get from a bean burger.
The flavors are fabulous and the texture is great. They’re also super easy to make ahead of time so you can take them with you to the party.
HEALTHY BLACK BEAN TACO BURGERS
Tacos are one of our favorite foods, but they’re not really conducive to tailgating.
You would have to pack up so many components and set them all out, which also means lots of dishes.
Instead of all of that, we put all of the taco ingredients into a burger, so you get the flavors without the mess.
Grilled mushrooms taste so much like steak.
They have a great smoky flavor and a great chewy bite.
Grilling mushrooms is so easy, and when you top them with vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato, and your favorite condiment, you get a delicious vegan sandwich that everyone will love.
VEGAN DESSERTS TO TAKE TO A TAILGATE PARTY
Every party needs a few sweets. Do you agree?
We love cookies and brownies for tailgate parties, because they’re easy to make and portable.
Here are a few of our favorites.
The best sugar cookies are the kind that are slightly crispy on the outside and chewy and tender on the inside.
These are all that.
VEGAN DARK CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Who doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies?
These are filled with dark chocolate and love.
FROSTED APPLE CINNAMON OAT COOKIES
Fall is all about apples, and tailgating in the fall requires a sweet apple cookie with warm cinnamon.
SOFT VEGAN & GLUTEN-FREE OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES
Next to chocolate chip cookies, we are crazy about oatmeal raisin cookies.
These are super easy to make and travel well.
The warm spices and earthy pumpkin in these cookies are SO good. The perfect fall cookies.
We hope you make one or more of our vegan party food recipes for your next tailgate. Please let us know if you do!
