  • 1 stove

  • 1 gallon apple cider see note
  • 3 cinnamon sticks see note
  • 4 whole cardamom seeds
  • ¼ cup allspice berries
  • 2 tablespoon whole cloves
  • cup dried orange peel
  • 1 to 2 ounces whiskey (optionasee note

  • Pour the cider in a large pot and bring to a low boil. Immediately reduce the heat to a low simmer and add the mulling spices (see note). Simmer for 30 minutes and use a fine mesh sieve/colander to strain the spices.

You can use apple juice to make this; however, the flavor won’t be as rich.
Feel free to use store-bought mulling spices, just follow the instructions on the packet for measurements.
Rum is also delicious in cider.
If you don’t want to strain the spices you can wrap them in a cheese cloth or put them in a nut milk bag.
A small serving size is 8 oz and a large is 12 oz.
Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freeze in an ice cube tray to make flavored ice cubes.
