Happy New Year!!!! I’m going to skip all of the drama about how fast 2014 flew by and just get on with it.
Happy one year veganniversary to me and to Veganosity!! It’s been a year since Alex designed our logo and we started this blog!!
A year ago today I officially became a vegan. Hurray for me, because after a year of consuming only plants and no animal products, and I FEEL GOOD!
I have more energy. Nothing is weighing me down, which lead to this….
I dropped five pounds of middle age middle weight – the stuff that collects in the mid-section, because….
I eat better than I’ve ever eaten in my life. I eat tons of vegetables, especially green leafy ones, like spinach and kale. I eat tons of fruit. I eat healthy whole grains, such as oats, quinoa, barley, and faro. And, I drink almond milk, which has more calcium than cow’s milk. I’ve also incorporated hemp seeds, flax seed, chia seeds into my diet, which gives me the Omegas and protein that I need. And….
Alex and I launched Veganosity together, which has changed my life is so many ways.
- This vegan blog has also helped me realize that I can. I can build my own business. I can learn how to navigate technology (even if it takes me 100 attempts to get it right). I can create things that people like, want more of, and talk about and share with their friends.
- When you get to my age (51 shhh….) it often times feels like there isn’t room for you in the business world, and it’s frightening. It’s like the world belongs to 20 and 30 somethings – which is depressing because I don’t feel old. Thankfully, the blogging world has room for everyone, regardless of age. I’ve made virtual friends who are in college, graduate school, my age, and beyond. What matters in the blogosphere is that you keep it real and give quality. I can do that.
- Friends and family members have changed their diets and are healthier because I went vegan. This feels amazing. The daughter of a friend of mine did a school project on veganism this past fall, and my friend decided to join in on the fun. She reached out to me for advice several times, and then thanked me on social media for motivating and helping her to lose weight and feel better. You guys that made every long day that I’ve spent working on this blog, and every happy hour or tennis game that I declined to attend because I was cooking or writing a post, so very worth it.
- I’ve also made some awesome virtual friends. People who love our recipes and ask us to veganize a favorite recipe of theirs, they inspire me to do better. Blogger friends who share one of our posts with their readers, or who take the time to comment on one of our recipes, they humble me. As corny as it sounds, they have renewed my faith in humanity. Seriously, it’s cut throat out there, but this blogger community that I’ve grown to love is the opposite. We all lift each other up and help one another grow. How awesome is that in a world that seems so greedy and selfish at times?
I’ll admit it, there are some negatives to being a vegan, but they’re easy to overcome, and/or ignore. Because it’s a new year, with new beginnings, I’m not going to talk about those things. 2015 is going to be a year of positive thinking. If you’re a new vegan and have questions about overcoming questions and obstacles in regards to this lifestyle, email me. I’m happy to help.
2014 was Veganosity’s first year, and what a year it was! Our first month we had 1550 views. A year later, we have an average of 20,000 views per month, and our goal is to quadruple that this year. We are so excited to share more vegan recipes, beauty products, fashion, and news with you. We’re just getting started folks, stick with us and watch us grow!
Having said that, let’s take a peek at our top ten recipes of the year. Thank you friends for making this happen. We love you all!
