Thriving Plant-Based Thursdays – Goal Setting & Achieving is the first of our new weekly series!
Hey lovelies! We can’t believe that we’re in our fourth year of doing Veganosity!! This little blog started out with the intention of documenting our vegan journey, but it’s turned into a lot more. Veganosity has turned into a platform for us. Our goal is to show people that living a plant-based lifestyle is not just a healthy way to live but it’s a great preventative lifestyle.
Many of you may know that I, Alex here BTW, recently graduated with my Master’s in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Health Psychology. In my thesis, and throughout my degree, I focused my efforts on learning as much as I possibly could about living a disease-preventing lifestyle. So, now I’m here to share what I’ve learned with you!
These posts will focus on laying out scientific evidence in a way that makes sense, at least I hope it will make sense. After all, not many people can or want to sort through the spider web of data and analyze it. Lucky for you guys, I am just that sort of nerd who finds those masses of data fun and interesting! In fact, it’s a running joke in my friend group that at least half of my statements begin with “I read in this study…”
So, this week I would like to focus on goal setting! As we’re in our first week of New Year’s Resolutions many of you are probably feeling great and are ready to conquer your goals! However, like I’ve mentioned in a this post, only 8% actually finish that goal. Let’s make that number bigger, shall we? I’m going to introduce you all to several ways to maintain and achieve your goals!
HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION GOALS
Measurable, Attainable, Appropriate Time Frame
Many people fall flat on their goals because they aren’t clear in what they want. So start by really clarifying your goal. Maybe “I want to be healthier” translates to I want to eat six servings of vegetables a day, every day of the week, for a year. This goal is very measurable, attainable, and has a clear time frame. An example of an unrealistic goal for most people would be: I’m going to lose forty pounds this month. Not only is that unattainable for the most part, and not to mention unhealthy, but it also has an inappropriate time frame. Bump that goal to six or seven months and that would be an appropriate goal!
Proper preparation= success. If your goal is to eat six servings of vegetables a day but you don’t have any vegetables in the fridge, your goal is going to be much more difficult to accomplish. There are a couple of ways that I love to prep for a healthy day. Firstly, I keep my refrigerator/freezer stocked with the foods that will help me achieve my goal. Another way I plan for success is by laying out my gym gear the night before. I always have my leggings, shirt, sports bra, shoes, and gym bag complete with a water bottle to fill at the gym all prepared. That way, when I wake up I can just do a quick change and grab my bag! There’s no excuse to skip the gym 🙂
Speaking of stocking the freezer, eating your fruits and veggies, and going to the gym, we’ve discovered a fast, easy, and healthy product that’s a game changer for those who are in a hurry, or are afraid to make smoothies from scratch. Frozen Garden Ready to Blend Green Smoothies! You guys, why didn’t we think of this? There are 9 different flavors, such as, Jungle Breeze, Napa-licious, Lemon Fire, and six more delicious flavors. We loved them all. You keep them in your freezer, open the container, pour the whole food plant-based ingredients into your blender, fill the container up to the water mark with water (genius idea), and blend away. It doesn’t get easier than that, and they will definitely help you stay on track. Click the link above and go and check out their website, and scroll to the bottom and enter the GIVEAWAY for a chance to win a box of smoothies!
Keep track of your goals!
One of my favorite ways to keep track of my goals is by using a goal wheel! It’s simple, you divide the chart into measurable increments and fill it in as you complete each part. Here’s an example with only one of the four quadrants filled in:
Remember: you can achieve your dreams! Just make sure you keep track and use these awesome tools to follow through! You can do it.
