Walking into the locker room at the local yoga hot spot was pretty nerve racking. I’ve never been to this studio before and it looks completely different from the one that I’ve been used to, even the people looked different. Inside the locker room I asked a girl, who was also getting ready for class, what it was like. She responded with a simple “it’s easier than yoga… why?” Feeling like an idiot, I marched myself into the hot studio.
Easy my ass. Five minutes in my gluts were burning and my breathing was getting heavy. Keep in mind, the entire time sweat is pouring down my face and onto my matt. After the fifteen minutes mark, though, I began to get the hang of things and really started to enjoy myself, especially when we started using the bar.
For all of you guys who took ballet or any kind of dance when you were little, but maybe had to give it up for other things like I did, you will LOVE this workout! I felt like I was twelve years old again doing pliés and picques! It was the best feeling ever. Not only was this workout toning my butt, claves, thighs and tummy but the instructor also used a weighted ball to give us a pretty decent arm-toning workout too.
It just goes to show, if you’re afraid of trying something new, do it anyway. And don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t work out right the first time or the first couple minutes. There is a chance that your leap of faith into a new workout could end up being your favorite hour spent on Wednesday nights. I can’t wait for next week’s class!
