The web is being slammed with all things pumpkin spice right now. I love pumpkin and I adore pumpkin spice. Take one bite of these and you’ll love it too. But here’s the thing, with all of the excitement over pumpkins I feel like we’ve missed out on another seasonal gem. Apples. Apples need some attention. That’s why I want to share my healthy apple pie smoothie with you.
This is the best time of the year, it’s the time of year when we can jump into our cars and drive to the nearest apple farm and pick bushels full of apples. We can eat those apples as is, or turn them into compote, or pizza, or sauce, or put them in a salad. Of course you can also make pie with them, even a raw apple pie is you want. Apples. They’re what’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And of course, they make an awesome smoothie.
If you can’t get to an apple orchard, no worries, because you know that your local grocer is stocking apples by the truck load. The last time I went to Whole Foods I walked through the front door to see boxes upon boxes of crisp, sweet honeycrisp apples being unpacked into a pyramid of deliciousness. There were numerous piles of other types of apples too, but honeycrisp is my jam, and seeing all of those freshly picked apples made my heart sing.
There was also a long line of jugs of apple cider winking at me from the produce cooler. So I winked back, grabbed one, and put it next to my giant bag of honeycrisp apples.
Seeing those two together made me think of apple pie. But I was more thirsty than hungry, and I didn’t have time to make a pie, so I thought, smoothie. And that my friends, is where this refreshing and healthy apple pie smoothie was born.
All you’ll need to make this apple smoothie is a high powered blender (affiliate), one apple, some apple cider, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Core and peel (optional) the apple, put it and the other ingredients in the blender, and in thirty seconds you’ll be sipping on some pie. Easy and oh so good.
Note: I added a tablespoon of hemp seeds to my smoothie for protein and omegas.
