Writing this book was a labor of love. Alex and I created over 70 delicious recipes that were inspired by Southern and Midwestern foods that are near and dear to our hearts. Every recipe has a story behind it, whether it be from my childhood or Alex’s. We take you from Chicago to the Carolina’s, from Texas to Virginia, and everywhere in-between. There’s also a mouthwatering photo of every single recipe, thanks to the uber-talented, Kelly Allison!
We veganized my Southern grandma’s (Big Mama) and mother’s recipes, Chicago and Milwaukee specialties that Alex grew up loving, and BBQ favorites from my pre-vegan years.

Finally, there’s a way to make your favorite BBQ foods without the need to fire up a grill! One of the best things about our cookbook is that you don’t need a grill to make any of the recipes. You can cook them in your oven or on your stove top. So if you live in an area that feels like the Arctic Circle for six months out of the year, or you live in an apartment that doesn’t allow you to grill, this cookbook is for you. And, for those of you who prefer to grill, be our guests. Many of our recipes can just as easily be made in the great outdoors.
