This is a classic Mardi gras cocktail that will make you feel like you’ve been transported to New Orleans. Literally, you will feel like you’re spinning and on your way to Bourbon Street if you drink more than one of these.
Mind you, I wouldn’t know that first hand, but after a few sips to test the drink before posting it, I’m pretty sure that’s what more than one would do to you. Be careful!
Now that I got that out of the way, I can tell you about how yummy this libation is. I’m not a gin drinker, but I’ll tell you what, when champagne is added to the mix, I kinda liked it. Who am I kidding, I really liked it! I literally poured out a perfectly good drink because I didn’t trust myself not to finish it at 2:00 in the afternoon.
But, hey, it’s Mardi gras folks. One of these with your gumbo won’t hurt. Just one though, seriously, I’m not kidding.
2 ounces vegan Gin (I used Bombay Sapphire)
1 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp. vegan sugar
Champagne or sparkling wine
Lemon spiral to garnish
Combine the ice, gin, lemon juice, and sugar in a martini shaker. Close the lid and do a little shake. Come on, shake that thing!!!
Fill half of a martini glass or champagne flute with the gin mixture. Fill the glass with the champagne.
As always, drink responsibly. Don’t drink and drive and don’t drink and text. Follow those rules and you’re golden.
