As the coldest months of the year trudge on, I become more and more aware of the astounding amount of people wearing fur. Every time I pass one of these monstrous coats I pray that they aren’t what I think they are, and the person is kind enough to be sporting faux. Unfortunately, there are still those out there who are purchasing and wearing fur. Weather they are aware of the truths of the fur industry, I’m not sure, but as vegans and animal lovers we should take it upon ourselves to be good examples… support faux fur!
Every year thousands of animals are murdered for their fur. We see these women and men walking around in their animal-made coats carrying around their little dogs and cats. What would these people say if they knew that the coat they’re wearing might not actually be the animal they think it is. It might even be a dog or cat like the ones they worship at home.
Fur is majorly sourced in China because of its lax regulations on the industry. While the animals are stuffed into tiny wire cages for the entirety of their lives, they also have to face horrible and painful deaths by blunt force trauma, suffocation or electrocution. Here is the worst part, that coat is not just one animal… it could potentially be made out of more than a hundred. To make a chinchilla coat it takes 130-200 of these tiny animals! How anyone can brag about his or her fur coats… I’ll never know.
The great part is that faux is increasingly looking more realistic for those who feel they need a fur coat! Check out the ones listed below and send them to a friend who has a fur coat already! You can also urge people to donate their coats to homeless shelters or Peta to keep people warm or help during demonstrations!
